What is ESG Analysis?

Environmental Governance Social (ESG) Analysis is a dashboard that gives Buyers and suppliers a clear view of a supplier’s sustainability, governance, and ethical performance.

  • ESG Analysis uses pre-existing data, provided by suppliers in their Stage 1 and Stage 2 questionnaire, related to their ESG corporate practices.

  • It cleverly surfaces metrics and creates a clear, easy to follow dashboard.

  • It provides actionable intelligence and advice on how suppliers can improve their score.

  • It encourages honest and open conversations between suppliers and buyers about how suppliers are working towards their ESG objectives and goals.

  • Suppliers and buyers have the same dashboard view and can see which questions from the questionnaire contribute to which theme and pillar.

Why has ESG Analysis been created?

We're passionate about managing important supply chain data in our industry communities, and we are equally passionate about helping those communities deliver a better ESG performance. ESG Analysis enables suppliers to demonstrate to their buyers that they are actively taking the steps needed to improve their company's sustainability and ethical performance.

  • ESG Analysis leverages the existing community ethos and encourages collaboration.

  • It ensures suppliers don't need to do extra work.

  • It supports suppliers in improving their ESG performance and impact.

  • It helps suppliers to meet the current and emerging requirements of their buyers and regulation/legislation.

What are the benefits of ESG Analysis?

  • Tangible actions - ESG Analysis provides clear and achievable advice on how suppliers can improve their ESG performance.

  • No extra work - It uses existing data within our system, so no added work or resource required for suppliers.

  • No extra cost - There is no additional cost to a supplier or buyer for ESG Analysis as it is covered in your annual subscription. There also no extra charge to suppliers for this new insight.

  • Supply chain visibility - The insights are available for all complete Stage 2 suppliers and provide full transparency to all involved of which questions have contributed to suppliers’ ESG Analysis.

  • Dual scoring - Suppliers can use the two different scores provided to check how they are performing as a company and how they compare to companies of a similar size.

Where is ESG Analysis located?

ESG Analysis information will be available on both the supplier and buyer portals for all published Stage 2 suppliers. Suppliers have visibility of their own organisation’s ESG Analysis - only buyer members will have visibility of scores across all complete Stage 2 suppliers.

No additional log in details are required. The Analysis can be viewed from a new tab on the supplier details landing page.

How has the score been calculated?

Once you finish your Hellios questionnaire, your responses are used to calculate your ESG Analysis, which covers all three pillars of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance), as well as a number of key themes for each pillar that have been defined by extensive academic research into valid ESG sources.

ESG Analysis calculates a set of scores for each pillar and theme and identifies positive actions you have taken already, and areas where you may also be able to makes changes to improve your ESG performance. The scoring is divided into two parts: an absolute score and a relative score.

  • Absolute score - shows the number of positive responses to the ESG questions as a simple score and fraction. This provides further insight into the size of the improvement opportunity for your organisation.

  • Relative score - compares you to other suppliers of a similar size, so you can see how you are performing compared to your peers. This ensures that the comparisons being made between suppliers by buyers are useful and fair.

Using both of your scores provides valuable insights into your current performance, to help you enhance your organisation’s reputation and your overall approach to ESG.

Why is the score reliable?

ESG Analysis is grounded in credible sources with extensive academic research based on the current regulatory and reporting. The questions have been agreed with the buyers in each community, so are relevant to the industry communities.

ESG Analysis allows both buyer and supplier visibility of the questions that have contributed to each theme and pillar, so there is transparency for both sides.

How have the actions been identified?

ESG Analysis will highlight areas where a supplier is excelling in comparison to other organisations of the same size, and also areas of improvement. These may be things that other similar sized organisations are already doing, or areas where you could stand out.

Who can access ESG Analysis?

All active supplier users will have access to their organisation’s ESG Analysis and all active buyer users will have visibility of ESG Analysis for each published supplier in the portal.

Is there an additional fee for ESG Analysis?

ESG Analysis is included within the annual subscription for each supplier and buyer organisation, so does not incur any additional cost for both supplier and buyer communities.

Does a separate questionnaire need to be completed for ESG Analysis?

No additional questionnaires need to be completed for supplier profiles to present ESG Analysis.

How frequently will the ESG Analysis content be reviewed?

The ESG Analysis question set will be reviewed in line with the annual questionnaire review, unless there is a requirement for a mid-year update due to changes in regulation or legislation. This process is governed by the buyer members.
